GPB Solicitors has had its practice suspended by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) amid suspicion of dishonesty by an employee of the firm. Mr Daniel Clarke is suspected of acting dishonestly in connection with the firm’s business, though the SRA has not provided any further detail on the allegations against him. As a result the company’s practising solicitors, Mr Simon Andrew Clive Newbold, Ms Zakia Khalid and Mr Roy George, have had their practising certificates suspended and are unable to trade as a solicitor firm while the SRA investigates the business. In a statement the SRA cited the following reasons for suspending the certificates:
• Reason to suspect dishonesty on the part of an employee of GPBSolicitors in connection with the practice
• Failure to comply with the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules 1998 and the SRA Accounts Rules 2011
“An intervention means the SRA
has closed a firm with immediate effect,” the regulator said.
“We will stop the firm from operating, take possession of all documents and papers held by the firm (including clients’ papers), and take possession of all money held by the firm (including clients’ money).
