Six Yorkshire Councils have blocked payday lender websites from all council computers after they estimated that 78,000 residents currently have payday loans. Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Wakefield and York councils have banned the websites of nearly 200 payday lenders from computers in libraries and customer contact centres, as well as staff terminals. In a statement, the councils said that anyone attempting to access payday lending sites on a council computer will be redirected to an information page which will provide advice on debt, and alternative sources of affordable credit and banking services through local credit unions.....Read more here
