Travellers who want to save on next year's tickets have just hours to make their purchases ahead of New Year fare rises.
If you are buying annual rail season tickets for 2013, as long as the start date is January 1, you can travel for the whole of next year at this year's prices. Similarly, you can currently pay for a year's travel pass on the London 'Boris Bikes' for £45, but this will double to £90 if you buy the pass from January 2. According to the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) the average price rise on all fares is 3.9pc, but tickets costs on some routes will rise far more. Check the price rises for your ticket before you buy, as costs on some routes will fall slightly, while others will rise by more than the average.
