Britain's biggest banks are facing a probe into online transfers that end up in the wrong account, Money Mail can reveal. Banks will be quizzed about how many payments go astray each year, and told to produce figures so that the true scale of the problem can be assessed. This comes just a week after we revealed how banks were routinely fobbing off customers who accidentally sent money to the wrong bank account. In a further victory, the industry body that oversees bank transactions has appealed for Money Mail readers who have made online payments in error to share their experiences.
