Money Advice Service reveals new debt tackling measures

The Money Advice Service (MAS) has given new details of how its revamped service will help people in debt from April this year. The service, which is a charity funded by the Government, revealed today (22 February) that it believes 2m British households need debt advice. The Money Advice Service (MAS) will spend almost half of its £46.3 million annual advice budget on raising awareness of the service, according to its 2012/13 business plan. As the budget of £80.8 million has been divided in two, the remaining £34.5 million will be designated to debt advice, Money Marketing reports. The consumer financial education body was established in April 2010 under the Financial Services Act, with the industry fuelling much of its budget through levies applied by the Financial Service Authority.

Ways in which the marketing money will be spent include television adverts, email marketing and online advertising. The MAS aims to reach more than 11 million people each year by 2017, with chief executive Toby Hobman claiming generic advice will be based on.....Read more here---: Half of MAS advice budget to be spent on marketing
