Car insurance shoots up another 12% as towns in Northern England suffer biggest increases
Car premiums have risen by 12 per cent year-on-year, according to new research, which equates to a £92 jump in insurance costs for already hard-pressed motorists. But there is a rare piece of good news for motorists, increases finally appear to be slowing and average prices actually slipped 1.6 per cent in the final three months the report covers. Data in the Confused.com/Towers Watson Car Insurance Price Index, found that the biggest annual price hikes affected postcodes in the North of England. Between June-September 2011, Oldham suffered the highest premium rise, with the average cost of comprehensive cover climbing 27.9 per cent.
