Shanks chief Tom Drury quits over commute

Shanks chief executive Tom Drury is quitting his £840,000-a-year job because he is fed up with the commute.
The 49 year-old has braved the M6 from Knutsford to Milton Keynes every Monday and Friday since he joined the company in 2007 and has been staying in a flat in Leighton Buzzard during the week.
"After four years of living away from the family, I wanted a chance to live with them," he said.
Mr Drury will leave the waste management company in October to become chief executive of debt collection agency Arrow Global just 35 minutes' drive away in Manchester.
Shanks chairman Adrian Auer insisted that the split was amicable and was keen to trumpet Mr Drury's achievements.
Shanks has hired headhunters to find Mr Drury's replacement. The AA Routefinder suggests Mr Drury's commute to Shanks would take two hours 27 minutes in a car, door-to-door. Mr Drury said it was more "a function of how many minutes I spent in traffic jams".
Alternatively, he could have taken a two-hour train ride to Milton Keynes.
That was not the point, Mr Drury said. "It's a cumulative effect of being away from home for four years." His youngest child will leave home this year, so there was a chance his wife could move south.
"It's not just about my wife and family," Mr Drury explained. "I've got a lot of friends in the North West." Yorkshire-born, he has been living in the region for about 20 years.
"I have no issue at all with Milton Keynes," he added...Read more on this story: Shanks chief Tom Drury quits over commute - Yahoo! UK & Ireland Finance
