Barclays has been named the most complained-about UK financial institution, according to newly released figures.

More than 205,000 complaints were made about its banking service in the final six months of 2010.

According to the Financial Services Authority - the industry's watchdog - that is a 5% increase on the first half of the year.

The rise means Barclays has overtaken Santander to reach the top spot.
The Spanish bank reported just over 165,000 complaints for its banking services, which sees its ranking fall to second place.

Rising complaints total
Barclays did, however, report a drop in total complaints from 307,622 to 294,891 between the two periods.
