Holidays overseas are now allowed to a select group of "green-listed" countries after restrictions for overseas travel were eased last month.
As of May 17, British holidaymakers can now travel to 12 countries and territories without quarantine on return home.
Other countries are categorised as "amber" or "red" depending on vaccination rates, infection rates, the prevalence of variants of concern and the capacity to sequence genomes.
Green:- One test within 72 hours of departure (to the UK)
A PCR test taken on or before the second day back in the UK
Amber: Pre-departure test
Quarantine for 10 days at home
PCR tests on day two and eight, with the option to pay for extra test on day five to be released from isolation early
Red: Will still have to hotel quarantine at a cost of up to £1,750 per person for 11 days with pre-departure tests followed by tests on days two and eight
Direct flights from the red-listed nations are banned
Britons currently in these countries must fly home via a third nation
A first review of the system in the UK is planned for June 7, ahead of the main summer holiday season, with the new "green" countries expected to be revealed on June 3.
It is hoped the announcement will pave the way for vaccinated people to avoid quarantine and take fewer or no tests.
People coming from "green list" countries have to provide a negative Covid test within 72 hours of departure and then pay for a PCR test on or before their second day back in the UK. You can see our full day-by-day checklist of holiday requirements, here.
Those returning from an "amber" country have to quarantine at home for 10 days. They have to take a pre-departure test and two PCR tests when back, on days two and eight.
Britons returning from "red" countries must quarantine for 10 days in government-approved hotels at their own expense, as well as the pre-departure test and the two tests once back.
