I know it's a while ago since you posted this msg and someone else may have said what I'm going to say.

Low Sodium Salt is not good for you, my wife has numerous medical problems.
She suffers with among other things, Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholestorol. Her diabetic nurse and dietician have both said that low sodium salt is worse than normal salt, just take it in moderation.

Had to laugh today..one of the foods just I've put OH on is beetroot, which early research suggests helps block cholesterol as well as dilating blood vessels and lowering blood pressure.
Had a panicky phonecall from him at work this morning as his urine's turned red!
It doesn't have this effect on everyone, again, genetics, diet, other meds etc can affect it. Harmless though.

It seems that medication can affect us in different ways, you either have side effects or not, but Simvastatins were killing my legs, and since they changed me on Pravastatins also at 40MG, up to now not noticed anything, fingers crossed

    Hi there,

Just a quick note to say I have been on 40mg Simvastins for three years now and have never had any side effects.

    Me too.

I've been on 40mg simvastatin for 7 years and my levels are still higher than they should be. Mine has been deemed to be familial as my sister has the same problem.

I don't drink, don't smoke and regularly go to the gym. Love my food though........

On the whole I've had no side effects.

Good timing on this as I'm off to give another blood sample in the morning!

Well I suppose I have to have something to worry about as my UE journey is currently plain sailing

I will certainly follow and contribute to a Cholesterol thread

Suffered with High Cholesterol for quite a few years, probably brought on by years of bad eating habits, but for the last few years I have cleaned up my act and eat healthy stuff now,ok I have a bit of a weakness for red wine and the occasional dop of malt, but nothing excessive, and do have an enforced no alcohol regime for 4/5 weeks at a time every couple of months.

Been on Statins now for a couple of years, have regular blood tests but Cholesterol still higher than it should be.

Been reading that a possible side effect of statins is muscle aches, nothing previously, but just started to get muscle pain in my right arm, nowhere else, just my right arm.. maybe I'll have to start using my left arm more..

On another matter just had a letter to go for a Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening, was a little worried as I have just had blood tests done and the doctor asked me to go and have bloods done for a second time within weeks of the first lot.
But reading up it would appear that this screening is offered to some people approaching 65. So maybe I got lucky with my name coming out of the NHS selection hat ?

BP has come down, but not enough (175/100) so amlodipine doubled to 10mg.

Explained to him about the statins and he's quite happy to stop them and for me to try my diet plan, with a blood test scheduled in 3 months to see the effects.

Good news Elsa, and hope the higher dose helps to reduce his BP, fingers crossed x

    Thankyouuuu

Stopped off at Morrisons to purchase Mazola oil for cooking, which apparently has the highest level of plant sterols for blocking cholesterol. We're now a butter free zone!
