Notwithstanding the comments from other posters, I am surprised at the relatively low level of support thus far, as 38degrees subscribers normally get behind petitions in greater numbers than this.

the problem is that in the great scheme of things, it's a pretty small number. The guys who are older and got away from the extra years are just grateful and probably terrified that some bugger is going to change their mind and pull theirs back! The youngsters don't really care either because their retirement date is too far away to contemplate and they all face working to they are beyond 75 at the moment, so they consider that we probably got off light........

You really need a big name to tear into a few telly programmes, someone high profile and committed. Remember that a large proportion of that 700000 may well be on benefits already and really their retirement day is immaterial, it's the poor buggers like us who have worked every day since we left uni and all the way through uni to support ourselves that are the fairly small minority that this is really hurting. I understand that the word on the street is "what the hell, just stop work and develop stress....." perhaps the government worked this out before they did this, and it's a fairly small price to pay for the amount it will save.

I know - it is quite daunting but you are right it is achievable. I watched Made in Dagenham the other night oh how inspiring that film is. It proves that if you believe in your "cause" and justice nothing will stop you from achieving it no matter what opposition you face.

It just made me all the more determined!

OMG!! It's achievable because the petition against re-naming the August Bank Holiday "Margaret Thatcher Day" has reached just short of 50,000

We have a looooooong way to go though. No wonder the Gov. gets away with murder in this country.

To receive a reply from the appropriate government department 50,000. For the petition to be debated in the House of Commons 100,000!

I know this may seem unachievable but when you realise that 700,000 women alone who were born on or after 6th April 1951 have been affected the most it certainly is achievable.

The thing is how do we reach those women and their families? Unfortunately Age UK have abandoned those affected. They did campaign before the second rise was made but to no avail.

I post regularly on so many Facebook pages and belong to a group who were established before the second age rise.

If we could get a few more to support us it would really help. I have contacted numerous celebrities asking for their support but have yet to hear from anyone.

Think tank says pension age should rise to 68 in just NINE years' time - is it time for more radical solutions to pay for our ageing population?

sadly we couldn't mass email as that's a breach of our Data Protection as we force an opt-in to email contact which I use sparingly (once/twice a year) in cases of urgent news or site issues plus a generic Merry Christmas email. We don't sell services or data and our newsletters are being redesigned on our main AAD site with proper opt in/out facilities (DPA acceptable)

What I will do is when AAD is finalised, and we email all users the link, I'll put something in the email linking them to your petition. Just bear with me. AAD is 70% complete so won't be too long.
