Hi, I am looking for some advice and help if possible. I have been browsing the forum and you seem like a good bunch of folk, so I plucked up the courage to write something.
Circa November 2016 I was involved in an RTA, when I hit black ice and wrote my car off. I broke 6 ribs and suffered from a concussion, which later caused "Post Concussion Syndrome". This entailed me losing my job, as my recovery took a long time and I could not drive. The person I worked for, was a small self-employed specialist, who could not operate without me as part of his team. Therefore I was forced to resign as I was unfit to continue.
At the time, I had a Credit Card with Capital One, A Natwest Gold Credit Card, A Bed on credit with Dreams, A Nat West Overdraft and a Nat West Personal Loan. All together totaling just under £24k. I could not service this massive debt and contacted the Stepchange Debt Charity, who advised me to make a token payment of £1 to each creditor for a period of time. I continued this for about two years as my health improved and I was lucky enough to find a vacancy with Scope the Charity as a van driver Nov 2018. At this time, I was still struggling, as I had arrears to my landlord and had only been paying £1 to each of my creditors. They had sold my debt on and I was continually receiving letters from the likes of Lowell, Cabot and Robinson Wray.
I then spoke again to Stepchange, with a view to Bankruptcy or an IVE, but somewhere in the conversations and a call with an IVA specialist, they decided I was not suitable for an IVA or Bankruptcy and I sort of fell of the radar!. All my fault I suppose, I stopped paying my token pound and just sort of went in on myself whilst trying to hold down my job, which was only just covering my outgoings. The letters kept coming from the DCA's and I just ignored them, as after my head injury and accident, I have mental health issues which just make me fall to bits if I get in any conflict.
In March of this year, I had a cycling accident and whilst in Hospital, the doctors found I was suffering from a very high Blood Pressure and basically signed me off work, due to an injury and the BP. So I am still off work and it looks like I will not be returning in the near future.
Today, I was at home and my wife brought in a hand-delivered letter. She was in our landlords front garden, and she saw a man looking out of place, she asked him what he wanted and he said he was looking for me. She asked why and he said he couldn't discuss it with her. She said I wasn't in and he left. She then went into our landlords as we share a post box with him (we live in a rented annexe in his garden, with no street access) In the post box was a hand-delivered letter from Resolvecall, for my attention, saying they had called today for the First time regarding my "accounts" with a request to ring a number quoting a reference which does not tally to any I have on file.
My big worry is that If resolvecall start turning up at my landlords he is going to blow his stack and we will get evicted!. He is a really nice guy and he and his wife, rent us their old student annex in the garden, but they are the sort of couple who don't like "problems". We live in a peaceful area and very rarely get visitors, which suits us, as my wife suffers from anxiety and depression. I know its my fault for burying my head in the sand, but I don't know what to do anymore. For all my working life,I have always paid my bills, mortgages etc,on time and never defaulted, yet this is weighing me down. Dealing with my wifes problems on top is nerve wracking enough, as she is also in a similar level of debt due to her problems after being bullied out of her job as a dental nurse some years ago. So we are both in a bit of a mess. Has anyone got any advice, please, it just seems so difficult to get some help. I sometimes get to that point where I wish I had not got out of the accident....
Cheers for any advice.
