What's an 'unlawful search from the DCA' though?
See below for screen print of what a DCA Trace is:

          Re: Niddy's Problematic Linked Addresses

So why would a DCA do a credit check on you, or is this a specified type of search, and what would they hope to gain?

They never done a credit check, they done a search and trace against my name which led to the incorrect link that equifax had activated against my name a few months ago as detailed in my OP above

Did you read this: ---> viewtopic.php?f=75&t=25

It explains the background in greater detail. Basically, the link was re-added by equifax a few months back and this led to loads of false accounts (the ID theft accounts) re-appearing on my clean credit file. Therefore when the DCA searched for MY (the imposter) name and date of birth, they found this link at my (this is the real me) address and so searched me as a search and trace. The screen shots above confirm what I said to them and their reply (I threatened them with libel, they said remove the search)....

In this image here: ---> viewtopic.php?p=36900#p36900 it shows "Outstanding Debt" where usually is would say "Credit Search" - the Outstanding Debt searches are listed separately and also remain for 2 years unlike a credit search which lasts for 12 months and is grouped under "searches" within credit files. A search and trace (or Outstanding Debt) search would be listed under "Debt Searches" which straight away looks bad and no lender will touch you if a debt search is recorded cos it suggests you're either dodgy, on the hide or have debts that you've not declared.

            Make sense?

              Ah, things become much clearer!

I'm so glad you sorted things out and decided to share your experience and advice. It really is an encouragement for those of us who find ourselves in debt and at the mercy of the banks and DCAs.

              Ta.
