Hiya
Yes they should have added it much sooner, you'd be best raising a dispute direct with them by pointing out this was from 2008 and the Principles for the Reporting of Arrears, Arrangements and Defaults at Credit Reference Agencies clearly states that a default must be recorded in a timely fashion and being you moved in 2008, this is the year the default must be applied.
Can you signup to Clearscore as they use Equifax. Let's see if it's on there. If not, and if it's only on TransUnion then I'll sort you a reply to raise a dispute direct with them. Or use a mortgage firm who uses Experian lol. But seriously check clearscore and let me know.
If you email me directly I'll sort you a suitable letter to send them to get it removed.

British Gas issued default after 8 years
Hi everyone,
I'm new here and looking for some advice.
I have found a default on my credit file from British Gas for £64 from an address I haven’t lived in since 2008 that I knew nothing about. The default was registered in October 2016
I only found this as I have a score of 995 with Experian and thought everything was fine but got declined for a mortgage, upon checking my file with Checkmyfile I found the default with Transunion.
Am I right to understand that this default should have been recorded back in 2008 and can it be removed even though the debt is not showing as settled?
If not what sort of action should I take to try to get this removed by British Gas?
Thank you.Last edited by J0hnboy; 26 July 2020, 07:33.Tags: None
