Does Josh's doctor know that he was in Asia recently Jane? There are conditions that can manifest months after exposure.

Morning, I am assuming that he had told them, will check with him today. Feel like we are stuck in a nightmare. The doctor is very good in as much that if josh goes in and tells them what he thinks it might be they test for that but I don't feel they are trying to diagnose the problem if you know what I mean. With this in mind if his liver results change today I am going to bring him back and get him seen by our family doctor I think. Someone medical needs to review exactly what has been happening. On top of all this worry I have my mum constantly saying she thinks it's all in his mind, that he is depressed and that he needs to snap out of it before he loses his girlfriend, job etc it's really not helping

You really don't need that right now honey. The older generation don't have much understanding of modern medicine, particularly attitudes to depression. It may well be an element, as a reaction to his physical illness, but either way it's not something anyone can "snap out of", as I'm sure you know.
A few people said that about my son, some (ex) Facebook friends even accused him of "whinging". Trouble is on Facebook they couldn't see the weight dropping off him. It was like watching his dad deteriorate all over again.
Stick with it, tropical diseases do need to be considered. You need a doctor to look at the whole picture.
Let's hope the liver tests throw some light on things. Did you say he's actually been tested for Glandular Fever?

Hi Elsa yes all the tests for glandular fever came back negative. I am going to see if I can ring somewhere re tropical diseases before I talk to josh. In fact I'm going to write up a timeline of his symptoms now to see if we present that to his gp it might help, just got to keep focused.

Try to pinpoint the region/s he was in, even the type of spider. Maybe an Asian born doctor would have a broader knowledge of the potential illnesses, even if not a TD specialist.
The World Health Organisation is a good source of info. Don't go scaring yourself to death though!

Let us see the timeline too (pm me if you don't want to publish it on here). And the blood results when you have them.
I did exactly the same with my son, an A4 sheet with all his symptoms and family history. It's now stapled to his hospital notes LOL.
They said it was really helpful, especially when different doctors picked up his case.

If you know what jabs Josh had before he went to Asia you could add those to the list of information you'll be giving the doctor. They're not always done at the surgery so may not be on his record. It might also be useful to find out exactly how he was treated for that spider bite at the time.

My daughter's symptoms didn't surface for more than two years after her trip.

It could still be the mould but no harm in checking out everything even if only to eliminate possible causes.

No change in Josh's liver, the are going to retest in 6 months, it's good news I think. I also phoned the tropical diseases hospital, spoke to a lovely nurse who recommended bringing him urgently to the walk in clinic. I explained we were in Shropshire and Yorkshire and she gave me their fax number to get his gp to do an immediate referral. I think they also have a centre in Liverpool so this is our next move I think. Josh sees the ENT consultant on Friday morning, he is doing his timeline tonight with Hannah ready to take to the specialist. 2nd night in the hotel tonight, he is not sure how he feels he is trying to be very honest about whether he feels any better. He isn't sure! He wants to go back to the flat tomorrow to see if he feels worse!

On the glandular fever question, many years ago I was quite ill and after numerous blood tests the GP diagnosed a virus and 'all in my mind'. Eventually my father got me to see a friend in St Thomas hematology dept who ran further tests and diagnosed a variation on glandular fever.

Thanks everyone they move back to the flat today and josh has very honestly admitted he thinks he felt better at ours or his pil's because he "felt safe" and it lifted his spirits. He is going to see how he feels back at the flat but Friday can't come quick enough for me.

Well another week starts and we are a little closer to getting our boy back I hope; specialist has started him on some medication for his throat, she believes it is being burnt by acid relux during the night whilst he is asleep. The pressure in his head she thinks is down to infected tubes connecting his throat, ears and eyes. He has an antibiotic syringe to take. She feels the inflamed tubes could be attributed to an allergy. Since they have cleaned the mold off and then left the flat to settle he seems to be coping. If I'm really honest I am not 100% sure that isn't because his girlfriends dad said he should give up his job and come home but Josh is saying he feels a little better and wants to try the course if treatment from the specialist. He has an appointment to go back in 5 weeks for her to monitor the results. He feels she was thorough as she did put a camera up his nose and down his throat!

Well I suppose we just have to sit back and see, he is an adult and I have to respect his decision on this

I was wondering how you were getting on.
Seems worth a try, but what about the acid reflux? Sounds as if he needs to take a dose of Gaviscon before going to bed. The acid will probably be down to stress.
