Broadband giants could be banned from boasting of internet speeds few customers can get. In a crackdown on misleading ads, the Committees of Advertising Practice (CAP) plans to force firms to ensure at least half of customers get the speeds that are claimed. Currently, they can advertise those that just one in ten enjoys. Thousands of households sign up to so-called superfast broadband only to find their screen freezes when surfing the web. CAP held a consultation on the proposals this month after ministers spoke out about the problem.
