Lloyds Bank hands back £41k to couple defrauded by 'vishing' telephone crooks
A couple who were defrauded of £41k by telephone crooks have been refunded the money - plus eight per cent interest and £250 compensation - by Lloyds Bank after This is Money reported their plight. The nightmare began for Denise Thompson and her husband Derek in May when a fraudster phoned pretending to be from their bank. He said there had been suspicious activity on their current account. The pair, who are in their sixties and from Selby, Yorkshire, hung up and proceeded to call a genuine Lloyds number from a recent statement to confirm they were definitely speaking to a legitimate bank employee. But unfortunately, the convincing fraudsters were still on the line and managed to empty both their personal account and farm business account. (Read the full story below.)
