Energy firms are changing the way they refund overpayments to their direct debit customers. Our table shows what your supplier is doing
More than half of all energy customers in the UK pay their energy bills by direct debit, usually because of the discounts on offer. Four of the big six energy companies will now automatically refund direct debit overpayments to customers who are in credit, subject to an accurate meter reading. Previously, EDF and other suppliers would automatically refund any amount above £75, with smaller repayments made on request. E.On already made an automatic repayment for customers £5 or more in credit. Scottish Power and npower are yet to agree to these terms. An npower spokesman said: “We’ve had feedback that refunding very low amounts isn’t worthwhile and we also know many people like to keep their account in credit.".....Read more here
