A TV advert for rent-to-own retailer BrightHouse has been banned for failing to give greater prominence to its APR information. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which published its ruling on 12 February, said the advert was not to be broadcast again in its current form after a complainant challenged whether the ad was “misleading” because the APR figure was not “sufficiently clear”. The advert opened with on-screen text which displayed its 29.9% APR representative. The voiceover stated: “At BrightHouse we’re making life a little bit easier by giving you the things you need right now and letting you pay for them a little bit at a time either weekly or monthly. We offer quick and simple credit and a price match promise on everything.” Caversham Finance, which trades as BrightHouse, responded that because the ad did not contain an incentive or comparison information that it was not necessary to display an APR.....Read more here
