The end of the married person's state pension, that will leave 30,000 women who retire between 2016 and 2020 worse off, is opposed by almost 80 per cent of older people. A survey by Age UK claims there is serious opposition to aspects of the introduction of individual state pension rights following the introduction of the single-tier state pension from April 2016. It will mean married, bereaved or divorced people, or those in civil partnerships, will no longer be able to rely on their spouse's National Insurance record to get their own state pension income. Those already drawing the allowance won't be affected, but it is expected to impact 30,000 women due to reach state pension age in the next six years who had intended on using the allowance in retirement, and won't have time to build up enough of their own state pension entitlements to replace that income.....Read more here
