Some energy suppliers are still back-billing customers for longer than 12 months following internal billing errors
Energy companies have faced a large backlash in recent months over steep price rises and poor customer service levels. Many have pledged to improve their internal procedures but some providers are still flouting billing rules set out by the regulator.
In August, Ofgem, which regulates gas and energy suppliers, directed all domestic energy suppliers to stop back-billing customers for energy used more than 12 months ago, if the supplier was at fault for not having sent a correct bill to the customer. Last month the Telegraph revealed thousands of households around Britain were being billed incorrectly, thanks to errors on the national databases that energy providers use to access meter information.....Read more here
