Say goodbye to Tystysgrifau Cynilo Mynegrifol

National Savings & Investments is to stop translating its brochures and other paperwork into Welsh after just 0.007pc of savers in Wales used the service.

Buyers of Tystysgrifau Cynilo Mynegrifol will in future have to ask for Index-linked Savings Certificates. The state-backed savings organisation said the £96,000 annual cost of running the Welsh service amounted to £900 for each customer who used it. Just 107 customers corresponding with NS&I in Welsh at the beginning of last year, it said. This represented 0.007pc of its 1.5 million customers in Wales. The service consists of Welsh language versions of all NS&I brochures on a like-for-like basis, a Welsh language web portal, translation of correspondence, both received and sent, and the provision of a Welsh language telephone service. "At an annual cost of around £900 per Welsh-speaking customer, or an additional cost of 3.78pc for every pound of their deposits, our Welsh language scheme is not a cost-effective use of public funds," NS&I said.....Read more here
