The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has launched a consultation that could see businesses made to reimburse consumers for over-payment or mis-selling. According to BIS, the Civil Enforcement Remedies consultation will change the way that authorities, such as Trading Standards, enforce the law on behalf of consumers. The new proposals mean that where a consumer has lost a sum of money due to a business having broken consumer law, whether through over-payment or being mis-sold something, the money will be returned to the consumer. Under the current system, when a business breaks a consumer law, the customer can go to an enforcer for help who will take the complaint forward on their behalf, seeking either a criminal prosecution or an injunction order in the civil courts to put a stop to the conduct.....Read more here: Businesses may be forced to repay consumers for mis-selling
