Money-grabbing claims firms are snatching thousands of pounds from borrowers by forcing them to pay for credit card refunds that should be free. These claims firms are known for bombarding householders with nuisance calls and spam texts urging them to claim compensation for mis-sold payment protection insurance, solar panels or pensions. They typically grab a 25 per cent share of any refund even if all it has done have is fill in a few forms. Now claims firms have found a new money-spinner - exploiting a consumer law designed to protect customers who have been missold goods or services.
