Today we scrutinise a new low-fee balance transfer credit card.
When it comes to credit cards the focus is on the balance transfer market, and the main battleground seems to be which provider can offer the longest 0pc period. However, while interest-free periods have got longer – Barclaycard is offering 24 months – the cost of transferring a debt over from another credit card has also increased. It wasn't long ago that balance transfer fees were around 2pc. Now you are looking at 3pc – higher in some cases.
Over the past six months we've seen a couple of providers test a different type of balance transfer card. The 0pc period is shorter, but the fee considerably lower. NatWest is the latest to launch such an offer. Its Platinum Special card has a 13-month 0pc period on balance transfers and the transfer fee is just 1pc.
