The Halifax credit card deal offers the longest ever interest-free deal for both balance transfers and new purchases.
Halifax won't charge any interest for 15 months. This applies to both credit card debt that is switched from a rival card and new purchases. This means that customers using the card during the festive period will not have to pay any interest on purchases until March 2013. As consumers have felt the pinch, many credit card companies increased the "teaser" deals offered to persuade consumers to switch.
A number of credit card companies have previously offered longer terms for balance transfer deals. Barclaycard, for example, currently has a 22-month interest-free deal for balance transfers. However, consumers have always been advised not to use such cards for new spending, as this will attract interest at a higher rate.
