A surge in fraudsters using old-fashioned but complex telephone scams to con bank customers into revealing their card details has hit the UK, police warned today. Some fraudsters are not only posing as people's banks on the phone but even sending round official-seeming couriers to collect cards from them, after having obtained their PIN. New Chip and PIN and internet technology has made it harder for criminals to steal someone's identity and go on a spending spree from the comfort of their own bedrooms.
