Consumers are urged to cash in as many and possible between now and the end of the month. The stamps will no longer be accepted to pay bills at the post office in just a few short weeks.

Introduced in 2004, the savings stamp scheme was meant to be an easy way for households to save for weekly or monthly bills. In May of last year, the Post Office introduced the Post Office Budget Card as an alternative and ceased all sales of savings stamps.

Almost a year later almost £1 million is still outstanding. That £1 million of stamps will lose their trade-in power starting on 1 March, 2011. Post Office officials are encouraging users to use as many stamps as possible towards bills this month, noting that any expired stamps will still be able to be redeemed for cash after the deadline.
