  • New Account On Credit File

    Hi Everyone,

I checked my credit report tonight and found that a new account has appeared with a defaulted balance from 2008. The account is owned by Provident and I have never had any dealings with them. Do they buy old debts? I did have a defaulted account with a similar balance which disappeared from my file ages ago.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Who was the debt with originally? Yea they purchase delinquent debts.

When you say it's vanished ages ago - was the default from 2008 regardless of when it vanished?

      Thanks for the reply Niddy.

If it is what I think it may be, it was originally M&S subsequently with Lowells.

The default date of 2008 would be right.

Can an account vanish and then re-appear under a new name?

      Thanks again.

Yes it can so long as the default date is the same hence my previous questions.

Ignore it. It won't affect you and expires next year

          An update on this one...

Provident have sent a letter to my previous address saying they have decided not to pursue the debt and that will be marking the account 'partially settled'.

It will be SB in 2 months anyway but nice of them to let me know I guess!
