The retailer says a vast number of debit and credit cards could be compromised after a security breach around Thanksgiving.

Retail chain Target has said about 40 million credit and debit cards might have been compromised by a data breach at the height of the holiday shopping season. It would be one of the largest credit card breaches at a US retailer. The breach started around Thanksgiving, on the busy Black Friday weekend. Customers who made purchases using their cards at the chain's stores between November 27 and December 15 may have been exposed, the retailer said. The stolen data includes customer names, credit and debit card numbers, card expiration dates and the three-digit security codes located on the backs of cards. The company said it notified authorities and financial institutions as soon as it became aware of the breach, and that it is working with a third-party forensics firm to investigate the matter.....Read more here
