A radio advert for short-term lender Pounds to Pocket has been banned after the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) branded it “socially irresponsible”. The ASA said the ad, which featured an alien character applying for credit using the Pounds to Pocket website, removed the process of taking on debt from reality. In the advert, a voiceover in the style of a newsreader stated: “Alien life forms are coming to Pounds to Pocket for help with their finances.” The “alien” voice then said: “Well I needed a loan quickly. So I looked on your internet and found I can apply for a loan anytime, anywhere.” According to the ASA, a listener challenged whether the advert was irresponsible because it trivialised the process of applying for credit and taking on debt. But CashEuroNet UK which trades as Pounds to Pocket argued the ad’s claim the company offered loans “anytime, anywhere” was correct and that it directed listeners to their website for further information.....Read more here
